Yesterday I had the pleasure of going to my favourite Scottish city - Dundee - to see the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (DJCAD for short) degree show. As usual, my main interest was in the jewellery and, as usual, it is well worth a visit.
I like the DJCAD show very much as it is much more diverse than the shows at the other Scottish art schools and there is less of a "house style", though that phrase perhaps makes it sound as if there is no diversity at all at the others, which is emphatically not what I mean.

Submission Deadline: 30 September 2014
The Metal Arts Guild of Canada invites you to submit recent and current work to CONCEAL/REVEAL, our second biennial Exhibition in Print.
Gehard Demetz applies his incredible craftsmanship as a traditional woodcarver to subjects that are new and appealing to contemporary viewers. His sculptures of children are at the same time attractive and disquieting and rendered with an amazing perfection. One of the most startling technical features is the construction using small woodblocks and juxtaposing finely polished parts to very rough and sketchy surfaces.
Edwige was trained professionally as a Decorative Painter and works as an Art Facilitator for the developmentally disabled. Xavier is a marketing Creative Director and works occasionally as an Assistant Pencil Sharpener for Edwige's clients. In our spare time, we try to make some good art.
