Gordon Millar, Dorothy Hogg and Melanie Eddy

What a whirlwind of a week!
It all kicked off on Saturday night with a visit to my favourite Scottish city, Dundee, where Gordon Millar was hosting another of his hugely exciting "Gathering" events, this being "Gathering V", the fifth he has organised.

As I've said before, these are "networking" events but they are also much more than that. They are meeting points for a very certain type of creative person from the worlds of fashion, photography, jewellery and design.

Northcity4 needs YOU!

Posted by Melissa Cameron

Dear friends, colleagues, fellow humans –

I’m writing to ask for the support of my fellow jewellers and creative community in Victoria [Australia], and to let you know about an experimental, environmental project we’ve been planning at Northcity4, my studio and a non-profit artist and education space in Brunswick.

Inspired by NASA’s brilliant research on the air-cleansing qualities of common houseplants, our dream is to build a large, permanent air-purifying garden indoors, to work alongside our conventional air-filtering system. We want to become a leading creative community on how to use plants effectively in artist workshop settings!

Importantly, we want to make all the research findings and a documented process of construction available, free of charge, for other interested artists and the wider community, locally and internationally. So this project is for everyone.

Call: 2015-2016 James Renwick Fellowship in American Craft

The Smithsonian American Art Museum and its Renwick Gallery invite applications for the 2015-2016 James Renwick Fellowship in American Craft. This fellowship is available for research in American craft or decorative arts from the nineteenth century to the present. Fellowships are residential and support independent and dissertation research. Funding is available for a full-year pre-doctoral fellowship or a postdoctoral or senior appointment of up to eight months. Scholars with equivalent professional experience and publication history may also apply.

Parent Residency Grant

With new support from the Sustainable Arts Foundation, WSW is offering a four-week Parent Residency Grant for a woman artist with a dependent child/children under the age of 15. The grant includes a $1,000 stipend for child care and a travel stipend for one round trip for the artist/family up to $250. The artist must submit a child care plan along with their application materials.

WSW offers facilities for etching, hand papermaking, letterpress printing, silkscreen, book arts, photography and ceramics. The artist has a dedicated studio and technical assistance as needed.

The $1000 child care stipend can be used at the artist’s discretion.
The visiting artist is responsible for additional care costs beyond that amount.
