Jimmie Martin - Furniture Designers - Hand Painted Furniture Specialists

Jimmie Martin Limited is a luxury furniture brand established in London in 2004.

Based in Kensington they have recently expanded into soft furnishings, wallpapers and lamps.

A modern metalsmith/metal artist can be found working in traditional metals as well as in nontraditional materials. The designs can range from the classic to the extravagant, and the techniques can either be centuries old or decidedly current.

The wide range of expression preferences, design options, materials, and processes has lead within our field to unfavorable misconceptions, misunderstandings and in some cases even outright disdain between artists. Can the metal and jewelry field overcome its division and send out a much-needed signal?

We appreciate and respect our historical past and acknowledge that current materials have a rightful place in jewelry/object making!

Arriving at this message is the goal of this traveling exhibition opening at the SNAG conference in Boston 2015; Velvet da Vinci, San Francisco, CA - Aug 19 - Sept 20, 2015; Equinox Gallery, San Antonio, TX - Oct 16 - Nov 15, 2015; Baltimore Jewelry Center, Baltimore, MD - Dec 11, 2015 - Jan 08, 2016; Brooklyn Metal Works, Brooklyn, NY - Feb 5 - Mar 4, 2016.

“Enameling in the Round,” with Harlan Butt at Peters Valley

- by Nicolette Absil, 2014 Peters Valley/crafthaus Workshop Scholarship Recipient

While I was at Peters Valley to learn, and did learn so much more than I could've hoped, I think overall the most important thing about my trip was community. Often times, as makers, craftswomen/men, artist, or as a hobbyist we do not have the chance to physically spend time with our peers. Regardless of whether the talk at dinner is about your chosen medium to work in, or how many desserts you're going to have (the food at PV was pretty good!) - it's the fact that we all share this common thread. Something we're all passionate about. That is the greatest thing about these past five days... to be able to connect with weavers, photographers, woodworkers, blacksmiths, ceramists, enamelists, and just have a great time together because we have this greater thing in common.

Thank you to Peters Valley and Crafthaus for this great opportunity to study “Enameling in the Round,” with Harlan Butt! Follow the experience.

Call for Artists: Materials Hard and Soft 2015

A Liar And A Cheat and Why You Should Close Your Paypal Account

Posted by The Justified Sinner

This is a long, somewhat involved and ultimately negative blog-post but I think it contains information of interest to many makers who use the PayPal payments service.

Some of you who follow my blog or who pick up on it occasionally may remember that in May, I completed a pair of Verdura-inspired cuffs to a specific commission from a customer. I was extremely pleased with the result of the cuffs (above). I should have trusted my instincts.

Pablo Lehmann - Paper Cuts

Alongside artists such as Paul Noble, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Sara Sze and Ai Weiwei, Lehmann exhibits an exhaustive level of physical labor in producing objects and concepts that illuminate how even the smallest conglomeration of objects continuously overwhelm us. In the same way as biology at the nanoscopic level baffles us as much as the reaches of the cosmos, Lehmann envelops his viewers in his fragile, intricately hand-cut environments.

Silver Jewelry Artist Erica Bello Wins the 9th Annual Halstead Grant

Sebastian Errazuriz - Art is a Matter of Life and Death

A simple fire extinguisher is transformed into a beautiful sculpture, an object of desire, painted with bold letters that read “Life” and “Death.” The artist’s aim is to convince those who have avoided the aesthetically despised common fire extinguisher to now include one of his inside their homes. As he explains: “This stupid sculpture might save your life one day.”

Marela Zacaria - Window Screens and Joint Compound

Zacarias’s wall and free standing sculptures are constructed from window screens and joint compound and painted with original patterns and geometric abstract shapes.

The Last Word....
