2014 SNAG/ crafthaus Scholarship Recipient - Parker Brown

Parker is in the fortunate position that his private interests (Civil War Reenactments) perfectly align with his day-job as a modern-day armor maker. Not only is he in the habit of meticulously researching the historical costumes, swords, and helmets he is about to recreate, he also documents all his processes and shares them generously via video documentation and a book project he is about to start.

I've spent the last few weeks working on a charity piece which kind of got out of hand.

David Lachapelle - Unnatural Consequences

In his Refineries Series, Lachapelle presents us with glowing landscapes of imagined industrial worlds. The dramatic shots are bathed in a celestial light, aglow with an otherworldly quality, yet Lachapelle seeks to convey the decidedly unnatural consequences of what actually occurs in these immense facilities.

From prehistoric cave paintings to current digital art, animals have provided creative inspiration across the centuries. “Animal Instincts,” the 2014 Juried Exhibition in Print by SNAG and produced by Metalsmith, will showcase a diverse range of animal-related work from the metalsmithing field. We are seeking works that are about animals, of animals, and even for animals. Let your animal instincts run wild!

Deadline: January 31, 2014
