RULE THE WORLD

Friends of Carlotta Gallery, Zuerich, Switzerland

What are the adornments of dictators, despots, and the plain delusional? What do they need in order to let their real personalities shine through? What tools do tyrants have to show that they are in charge?

Take a look at our newest online exhibition and leave a message for the artists.

Arrowmont: after 25 years, I am returning to the place where it all started for me as a fiber artist.  That embarrassing picture is me, Amber O’Harrow (then Amber Wood), with my first weaving, turned into a bag.

Let’s see where my journey has led me since then. Studying with Pat Hickman will be an enlightening experience for me.  Although my work has become three-dimensional in many mediums, I have never formally studied fiber in three-dimensions and I look forward to learning a great deal form Pat on fiber structure in that form. I look forward my week and Arrowmont and I hope you will enjoy following my journey as I make explorations into fiber sculpture!

The Barber and his Tools

When you hear the word 'barber shop' and think of 4 men singing in close harmonies you are correct but still missing a large part of the story. The profession of barbering is actually quite old and much more interesting.

Apprentice needed for James Craig Silversmith Shop in Colonial Williamsburg

The primary function of the apprentice silversmith is to rediscover, learn and preserve the varied trade skills of the 18th century silversmith, and interpret those skills to the public both orally and written. The apprentice must become proficient in these skills so that he/she can teach future apprentices, insuring the trade is perpetuated.

This position may be filled at the interpreter, apprentice, or journeyman level depending upon the qualifications of the successful candidate.

Since her American debut in 1995, international recognition of her work has steadily increased. ‘It’s largely about developing sculptural form’, explains Liv Blåvarp, when asked about her artistic intentions.‘But you could also say the recurring theme in my artistic practice is to create structures that seem alive.’’

The Aficionado's Day Job: Smithing an Articulated Neck-Piece for Cher

--Blog by Angelina Ciulik

Sometimes being a busy busy designer like Michael Schmidt means that you have to delegate and rely on your team from far away. Michael was in New York the week this project was brought to us [thank goodness for Skype!]. This is a hammered aluminum neckpiece that Cher used in her newest music video "Woman's World." This piece was executed in under 30 hours. When Michael was notified of the project he only had his iPad on him. He has a number of drawing apps so he did a rendering of what was needed and sent it to me. We then patterned the piece to the measurements given to us and began fabricating the neckpiece. Continue reading ...
