Interdisciplinary. Community. Advocacy. Humor.
Problem: Super talented TX metalsmith needs a small studio of his own.
Solution: You kick in a few bucks to make this happen, get cool thank you gifts in return.
Result: He gets his place, you feel good about yourself and your gifts will remind you that your bucks will result in fun, new work. At a certain donation level, you can give a gift to a friend too. Nice!

Algorithmic Adornments is a Concept born from the necessity and desire to engage and raise awareness - as well as interest - in the younger generations in Austria as well as other European Countries, of the traditional arts of Goldsmithing by introducing the latest methods of manufacturing into the workflow and curriculum.
For over a year now, I have focused a lot of my energy on working collaboratively with other artists. I am a member of an artists group whose intention is to bring more awareness to art jewellery in Canada, by collaborating with each other and with artists who work in different mediums. From the time of our first meeting in early 2013, where we just had an idea of working together, interesting, challenging and exciting collaborative projects have continually offered themselves to us.
I love the energy that working with this artists group has brought into my life. In a world that often seems individually focused, it is the collectives, the communions, and the collaborations of which I seek more.
It is my intention to share on this blog images of how creative communion has been flourishing in my life, and how my journey to the “Imagery in Jewelry” workshop will bring me new opportunities for creative communion.

Crafthaus Book Recommendation: Codex Seraphinianus
An extraordinary and surreal art book, this edition has been redesigned by the author and includes new illustrations. Ever since the Codex Seraphinianus was first published in 1981, the book has been recognized as one of the strangest and most beautiful art books ever made. This visual encyclopedia of an unknown world written in an unknown language has fueled much debate over its meaning.

I’m in a show at the Lillstreet Art Center Gallery in Chicago RIGHT NOW! The show was juried by Meghann Sottile and is running alongside Lillstreet’s annual Annual Art & the Urban Garden exhibition. Entitled Earthly Delights: Metalsmiths Inspired by Nature, I thought it a wonderful opportunity to give this little guy its first outing in the US (hey, it’s first outing anywhere outside of Sydney, in fact #humblebrag).

I quit making flutes permanently at least 3 times. My love/hate relationship with instrument making has been lifelong. Sure, it was always a good conversation icebreaker (especially with the girls), and working in silver has always been a pleasure for me, but it was primarily repetitive bench work. So I left it to write, compose music, make jewelry, and on and on. But it paid and my employers let me work from home while I pursued other things. So back I went.
Application Deadline: July 10, 2014
John D. Mineck was a past President of The Society of Arts and Crafts Board of Trustees and a beloved member of Boston's cultural community. The John D. Mineck Foundation was created in 2007 to award charitable and educational gifts that reflected Mineck's interests and values. His skills as a fine furniture maker were a result of passion, dedication and the guidance of a well-known furniture artist. Without that guidance, Mineck would not have realized his capabilities.
