is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.
Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.
We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

Deryn Relph and Alex Archbold
Studio Award Winners
In conversation with Alice Kettle
SATURDAY 13TH JULY 1.30 –3.30 FREE
Making Space, 2 Bishopstoke Road, Leigh Park, Hampshire, PO9 5BN
In 2012 Making Space received an Arts Council England grant for MAKING IT, a craft project which aims to reveal the process and relationship between the craft of hand and mind, between object and word and through learning and making. Last October, the Making It event in Winchester aimed to demonstrate that craft is the tool to investigate wider ideology, which is active, participatory and implicit in every day lives and in creative development. MAKING IT is a collaborative project with Alice Kettle, the Centre for Real-World Learning at the University of Winchester and Hampshire County Council.
As part of the Making It project, 2 studios were awarded to emerging makers – Deryn Relph, textile designer, and Alex Archbold, a maker working in kiln formed glass. Both are many months into their residencies and we have invited Alice Kettle, textile artist and co-founder of Making It to lead a conversation about their work to date, exploring what is in the mind and hand of the maker and other Making It concepts. This is a social event as well, and will provide an opportunity for networking.

What makes us human? We analyse, we process, we try, we fail, we try again;
we develop, we change direction, we fail, we gather our strength again, we start all over.
We look at things upside down gaining new perspectives.
This is how we grow. Going through this cycle over an over makes us human.
This is how we create. How we create jewellery.
Using our experiences, thoughts, impressions, our life.
Cosa ci rende umani? Analizziamo, proviamo, sbagliamo, ritentiamo.
Progrediamo, cambiamo direzione e sbagliamo di nuovo;
