is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.
Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.
We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

The Institute of Making proudly presents…
the Festival of Materials & Making – a celebration of the multi-disciplinary work being done at King’s College London around materials, taking place 7th to 11th November. Invading spaces across King’s campuses, the festival will showcase the extensive work being done by experts across a number of departments, ranging from War Studies and Physics to Classics and Life Sciences.
The slew of activities scheduled include artist interventions in public spaces, tours, demonstrations, talks, exhibitions and overall serendipitous encounters on subjects including animals & architecture, jam-making, radioactive and flourescent materials, stone and the material content of our bodies. Visit The Shed - an information point and pop-up activity site for the festival, located on the Strand campus; try your luck at finding Aerogel in our materials vending machines; and just take in the general festivities as we bring materials and making to the spotlight for one event-packed week.
While all events and activities are FREE, some require advanced booking. To book your place, and to view a full schedule of events visit our website.
