is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.
Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.
We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

As discussed, your help would be greatly appreciated in galvanising your present and past students to take part in this unique national initiative.
The prize, as you know, is the chance to exhibit on a shared stand, free of charge, at International Jewellery London (August 31 until September 2 this year), with all the PR benefits of being selected. It will be even more exciting this year as the show moves to a new venue in Olympia - so there will lots of extra buzz around the event.
For reference, the project was extended in 2013 for the first time from London and the South East to colleges to around the UK and Scotland. Divided into four regions, one designer was chosen from each, by one of the leading national editors on the nominations panel - with a fifth Bright Young Gem chosen as the Retailer's Choice. The panellists are all very high profile and include Vivienne Becker for the FT How to Spend It and the Fashion Consultant and journalist, Hilary Alexander.
Below are the details which it would be fantastic if you could circulate:
· Students nominated by your university will need to submit the following:
- a selection of images of their work - a minimum of 3, and ideally 5/6. Low res is fine.
- a biography or background about themselves
- a website link if they have one (we understand many may not as they are early in their careers, so that is not a problem)
They can upload their folder containing the above to dropbox, and please ensure they label the folder name with the name of the student and the name of the college
From our side, it would be easier if students get a folder ready together per college and upload all of their folders in a group folder. However we appreciate this may not be possible, so entering individually will be fine.
They can share the dropbox folder with: suzanna@hammondpr.co.uk or jennifer@hammondpr.co.uk
The deadline for the above is Sunday 18th May - although the sooner the better for our organisational purposes!
· The entries will be short-listed by the internal IJL Judging Panel with those nominated then sent to each member of the panel to select their nominated designer.
The short-listed and winning designers will be informed of their success at each stage of the selection process.
Winning designers need to be available to exhibit at IJL, in Olympia London, from 31st August - 2nd September - so only designers who are available then should enter in the first place. They will also need to have a full collection to showcase at the exhibition.
I hope this covers everything but we are more than happy to answer questions, and receive feedback on the process. So just drop us a note if you need any help or information.
Let's keep in touch.
Best wishes
Suzanna
