CHOOSE2REUSE FAIR: CALL FOR CRAFTS PEOPLE

York and North Yorkshire Waste Partnership are looking for artists and makers who reuse clothing, furniture or other items to create interesting unique pieces of work. Fairs will take place in Northallerton (5 November), York (3 December) and Harrogate (17 December). Opportunities for artists and makers include running workshops, providing demonstrations and as stall holders.

Young Artists Bursary Programme 2012

For the first time in 2012, as part of the Springboard Project, Spring Fling will be offering two graduates from UK art schools the chance to be awarded a place on the Spring Fling Young Artists Bursary Programme.

The recent graduates will be awarded 15 days of mentoring from a professional artist, £1000 to create new work, and free and automatic entry into Spring Fling 2012 where they will be given a space to show their new work. The application process is open until 28 October 2011 and is open to recent UK art school graduates (within the last three years) or final year student aged 25 years old or under, with a connection to Dumfries and Galloway.

Making It, is an initiative by the Suffolk Craft Society offering recent graduates the opportunity of support in bridging the gap between education and the market place. The award offers successful applicants a two year period of membership to the Suffolk Craft Society. During this period participants will have access to Exhibition and Gallery selling opportunities, a supportive network of fellow professional artists/makers, the Friends of the Society and promotion through the website. Applicants must have graduated at degree or diploma level in the last three years, be resident in Suffolk or have strong Suffolk connections, or live on the borders of the county. Up to three awards will be offered each year and the selection panel will be looking for – • A high standard of design, originality, execution and presentation. • Applicants who are in the situation to be productive enough and show the professional will to take full advantage of this opportunity. Dear up-and-coming jewellery designer


We wanted to let you know about a new jewellery design competition being run by QVC, one of the UK’s largest multi-media retailers, in association with Professional Jeweller magazine.

... QVC has launched a ‘Hidden Gems’ competition designed to identify a young, up-and-coming jewellery designer who is graduating from their course in 2012.

Entering the competition couldn’t be simpler - entrants should submit one design for a statement piece of women’s jewellery in the form of a drawing or CAD. Submission is in the form of a drawing or CAD. The judges are looking for an imaginative design that has the most potential for retail success. The closing date for applications is Friday 2 December 2011 and the winner will be announced in January.

· 10 boxes of jewellery off-cuts from the QVC warehouse for them to use in their own creations, which we estimate are worth thousands of pounds in value. The boxes include a mixture of semi-precious stones, freshwater pearls and metals from items damaged upon delivery to the warehouse and therefore not viable to be sold.
· a question and answer session with jewellery designer, Tomasz Donocik

The competition will be judged by three notable figures in the commercial jewellery industry:

· Gemma Savage - Senior Jewellery Buyer, QVC
· Rachael Taylor - Editor-in-Chief, Professional Jeweller & WatchPro
· Tomasz Donocik - Retail Jeweller Designer of the Year and shortlisted for Designer of the Year at the 2011 UK Jewellery Awards

You are cordially invited to the Annual General Meeting of the Association for Contemporary Jewellery

on Thursday 27th October, starting at 3.30pm, at the School of Jewellery, Vittoria Street, Birmingham.

This brief AGM will be followed by a special ACJ event to accompany the All Golds exhibition.  There's a fabulous website  http://www.allgolds.co.uk/

Starting at 4.30pm there will be presentations from several of the 100  exhibitors, and then a Private View with a glass of wine or juice.

Tickets are £8 for Full Members, £6 for students and £10 for invited guests.

The ticket request is attached.  Please reply by email if you intend to attend this party event.

We need a good idea of numbers to order all those bottles of wine!
