Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

CALL FOR ENTRIES: "Changing Hues: Color Embraced by Metalsmiths Around the World."
http://www.ganoksin.com/gnkurl/changinghues

The exhibition is open to all metalsmiths, professional and amateur, advanced and beginner, around the world.

The exhibition is seeking works whose primary theme is color, whether that be using colored materials, exploring creating colored surfaces, or encasing the object in color. Works should be about COLOR - not color as an accent or focal point, but with color embraced as their primary visual focus.

Young Designer Silversmith Award goes to University of Creative Arts, Rochester Student Kyosun Jung

This prestigious competition organised by the Goldsmiths’ Company focuses on young silversmithing students at universities in Britain today and is open to any student under 30 on a BA or Masters degree course. It has been announced that this year’s prize has been awarded to Kyosun Jung, a silversmithing student from the University of Creative Arts, Rochester who designed a saké set. Clive Burr was the master-silversmith who mentored Kyosun at his workshop at the Goldsmiths' Centre. With the assistance of Clive' s knowledge and guidance, Kyosun created this stunning saké set that has now been presented to London's Victoria and Albert Museum where it will become part of its permanent collection.

We would like to give our congratulations to Kyosun and best wishes for her future in the Trade. To find out more about this award, click http://www.thegoldsmiths.co.uk/news/young-designer-silversmith-awar...

Yet another year where a past UCA Jewellery and Metalwork BA student wins Best New Design Award at Goldsmiths!!! Well Done Emma Madden!!

Best New Design Award
Each award winner was presented with a prize of £1,000 towards their business development:
• Rebecca Hill
The judges were hugely impressed with her sculptural
and elegant tableware collection.

• Luke Shimell and Emma Madden
Their debut fine jewellery collection ‘Symmetry’ combined
richly textured 18 carat gold with carefully selected
coloured gemstones.

2011: The Best New Design awards in both weeks coincidentally went to two recent graduates. In Week One it was jeweller Emmeline Hastings. Emmeline combines contrasting materials, including Perspex, wood, stainless steel, titanium, and precious metals, in a unique process to create striking and beautiful, wearable and non-wearable objects. Each one-off piece is highly tactile and incorporates an optical effect, which creates an illusion of movement and fluidity. - See more at: http://www.thehockleyflyer.info/goldsmiths’-fair-2011-post-event-report/#sthash.8g275dAf.dpuf
