is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.
Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.
We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

ACJ Member Exhibition 'Diamond Jubilee'
Here are the full details on how to apply.
The theme is 'Diamond Jubilee' which allows a wide range of interpretation.
Criteria:
Neither diamonds nor precious metals are necessary.
Nominally one piece per maker, but this could extend to a pair, set or parure so long as this is a coherent and related set.
The piece(s) must be wearable in some form and you may exploit the full definitions of jewellery and body adornment, and further explore and push these boundaries.
We challenge you to surprise and delight the viewer with a celebratory piece!
Only paid-up ACJ members may participate.
The exhibition will be juried by a distinguished panel of knowledgeable industry experts, chaired by Professor Jack Cunningham.
The Jury will consider the quality & design of your previous work and the design proposal for your suggested exhibition piece. The quality & design of your previous work will be the main deciding factor for the Jury.
It is intended to publish a web catalogue, and it may well be possible to print this through a company such as Blurb books. We intend to organise a professional photographer for this purpose. Successful members will pay a participation fee and will receive a high definition photo for their own use.
Submission: see attached form

Proposal for the piece/s to be made for this exhibition - sketches or photos with a short written statement (50 words as a .doc please)

The Ugly Necklace Contest
- A Jewelry Design Competition With A Twist
Deadline: 3/15/2012
The contest presents a design challenge not often tackled. Can you
put together a well-designed and functional, yet UGLY, necklace?
We are pre-wired to avoid negative things. This makes it easier to end
up with something beautiful. And more difficult to end up with
something Ugly.

'On The Wire' is a new opportunity at Manchester Craft and Design Centre, which will allow a selection of artists to hang their work from a wire in the beautiful entrance area. This opportunity is open to any maker working in the UK in any material.
In May, Charlie Whinney brought us his fabulous steam-bent wooden sculpture, 'Wood For The Trees'. We have now selected our first official 'On The Wire' artist Gemma Truman to fill the space with her fantastic 'hung nests' made from glass and seagrass. If you think your work could follow Gemma's, and would like it to be seen by over 1000 visitors a week, then apply today.
The wire hangs approx. 19ft above the ground and runs approx. 19ft across; your piece does not need to completely fill this space. Please note visitors will need to walk freely underneath your creation without danger to themselves / without the potential to damage your artwork.
How to apply:
Please send an A4 statement (maximum), 3 images (jpeg, 300dpi) and a completed Application Form to;
