Are you a recent graduate? Self-taught and starting your career? If so then please apply. This popular exhibition has been running at the Devon Guild’s spacious contemporary craft gallery for 10 years. We would like to make the 2013 exhibition the strongest yet! The show acts as a platform to promote and sell new SW creative talent. Associate Membership is awarded to selected exhibitors.

Craft in an Age of Change

Craft in an Age of Change is a major survey of contemporary craft at the beginning of the second decade of the 21st century, examining the place of craft in the creative economy and the working patterns of makers and other craft professionals today. 

Following its publication in February 2012, the Crafts Council in association with CraftNet, is holding a series of workshops around the country to present highlights from the report, discuss the findings and share ideas about their implications for the future development of contemporary craft. See below for details of events in London and Bristol. There will be two further events in Cambridge and Liverpool in June/July with further details to be announced.

UNEXPECTED PLEASURES THE ART AND DESIGN OF CONTEMPORARY JEWELLERY 5 DECEMBER 2012 – 3 MARCH 2013 Unexpected Pleasures is a celebration of current jewellery design and examines what we mean by jewellery from a number of different perspectives. The exhibition traces the radical experiments of contemporary jewellers who have challenged the conventions of jewellery design. The exhibition also explores the essential meanings of jewellery, celebrating jewellery from the point of view of both wearer and maker. The exhibition will also bring together important work from around the world, demonstrating the relationship between jewellery, art and design.

Every year the trust selects a single outstanding project, which is awarded a ‘jack-pot’ prize of one thousand pounds. This is given to the best application regardless of the amount applied for. Most project awards are between £500 and £750. The 2012 project categories are: participation and engagement, the emotional figure, dementia and glass. Work in any medium will be considered. There is no age limit.

Wilson Williams Gallery is an artist-run contemporary gallery & project space established in 2008 in a converted Victorian terraced house in Hackney, East London. The WW SOLO Award is a structured opportunity, created to provide support and development for contemporary artists working in any medium and at all stages in their career.

A group show of longlisted artists will take place in August 2012 from which 6 artists will be shortlisted for the award. The award consists os a Solo exhibition in January 2013 and 3 residencies between Oct - Dec 2012 with prize money of £1000. Crafts Shop and Galleries Guide 2012  - Call for Entries

Following the success of the Crafts Shops and Galleries Guide 2011, Crafts Magazine is delighted to announce the publication of the new 2012 guide, which will again provide readers with the definitive guide to regional craft outlets. The pocket-sized supplement is open to galleries, group studios and individual makers with a retail outlet and is scheduled for inclusion in Crafts magazine's July/August 2012 edition. Additional copies will be distributed at various events that Crafts magazine attends during the year.

Art/ research jewellery is a growing disipline, with many countries steadily developing, educating and exhibiting a wealth of talented new jewellers, who are increasingly subject[ing] the traditionally decorative function of jewellery to a critical examination and question[s] its assumptions. of jewellery to a critical examination and question[s] its assumptions.

Thousands of people travel to Munich every year to see the best of the best, exhibiting alongside the rising stars within art jewellery from all over the world, as part of the annual Schmuck Show, which is now in its 64th year. Symposiums and fairs are regularly held in the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Poland, to name but a few.
But where are all the Irish?
We have a rich history of art and culture, and yet, the Irish preseace is vertually non-existant within this disipline. 
If I can paraphrase the [in]famous words of Alan Partridge; “ Der must be more to Ireland dan dis”.

This brand new collective is seeking members. The criteria is that you are an Irish Citizen- regardless of where you live currently.
We are seeking active members to be part in this collective, people who are interested in seeking opportunities, collaborating, exhibiting, and generally creating lots of noise about how great Irish Art Jewellery can be to a wider public.

Lonmin Design Innovation Award 2012 Call for entries

Celebrating 10 years! Make it THE year you take part!

The Lonmin Design Innovation Award is delighted to be celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2012. For those that have been waiting for the right time to enter this platinum-based jewellery competition which has grown into one of the top accolades in the UK jewellery industry, the time couldn’t be better. 

For the first time in the competition’s history, a theme has been set for this year’s contest - “Red Carpet Glamour”. The brief is “to create an original platinum jewellery design for the red carpet that channels the glamour of the 1920’s and 30’s into a creation that confidently belongs in the 21st Century”.

For the eight winners, the rewards are grander than ever with a £1,000 prize each, more publicity, and a new London venue for the all-singing all-dancing awards ceremony on Sunday 2nd September, which has become one of the most important fixtures on the jewellery calendar.

Sponsored by Lonmin, one of the world’s largest producers of platinum, and supported by International Jewellery London and Johnson Matthey, the award continues to be judged under a two-part system which recognises designers with more than five years’ commercial experience and those with less than five years in the industry.
