The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

We need you!
We’re on the lookout for your photographs and wondrous tales of commissioning and buying from designer makers for our blog. Have you ever commissioned something that has changed your life? What’s the best gift you’ve ever bought for somebody? Anniversary presents? Perhaps you designed your own wedding ring? Get in touch with hello@craftfinder.org.uk and let us know.

Dear Artist,

We would like to draw your attention to a new magazine specifically targeted to artists, Discover Art is a new magazine for practicing artists, it has been referred to as a "bookazine" by WHSmith and other retailers, it is a magazine format but has exceptionally high production values, it is content rich and will stay on sale for up to 12 months. The initial print run will be 10,000 copies to be sold in WHSmith with a further 1,000 copies being sold at events. Great Art will be circulating digital copies to their entire database of 75,000 artists in the UK which will be making the coverage of UK practicing artists, by far the highest of any practical art magazine. On top of this there will be a digital version available to download from various platforms such as iTunes and Kindle.

Discover Art aims to reveal the creative side of its readership not by presenting simplistic how-to formulas and rules to replicate its contributors' works, but by helping them to find their own distinctive and personal way of working through experimentation and experience.

Discover Art is being published by specialist publishers 'Discovery Media Group' who have teamed up with Great Art who is the UKs largest art material retailer.

Discover Art's first edition will be published in November 2013. Call the editorial team on +44 (0)1296631273 or email ben@dmgpublishing.co.uk for further insight into the exciting contents list, and how you can be featured in this exciting new publication.

There will be opportunities for carefully selected artists that provide products and services to other artists through Discover Art, they will be delighted to broadcast these messages on your behalf. To read the full media information click here and the online booking form click here.

b Gallery feel this is an ideal opportunity for artists and designers to further promote themselves.

Clore Duffield Foundation is researching the skills and development needs of Cultural leaders/aspiring leaders in England. The research aims to provide information that will help ensure leadership development opportunities are relevant and accessible to those who will benefit from them.

This includes the visual and performing arts, film, heritage, museums, libraries and archives, creative industries and cultural policy and administration. In craft of course includes those leading through practice, education, curation etc

The survey is currently live and will close in early September.

A high response rate is essential to ensure that the findings are of value to the sector and the results of this survey will be shared in order to ensure that the sector benefits from the survey results.
If you'd like to have your say, then take part now at:

Ones To Watch.
Offer To New Makers
As part of their pledge to support new makers Craft In Focus is offering this subsidised space at Desire Fair. So we are again staging a "Ones To Watch" area within our next Desire Fair.
This space is being subsidised by Craft in Focus to allow new and upcoming talent to get a foot on the ladder and show their work to an appreciative audience.

If you know of a new silversmith or jeweller who you feel would benefit, perhaps someone you have been mentoring recently, please forward this email to them and ask them to get in touch. Closing date for enquiries is 16 August.

Criteria.
Selection for the space will be carried out from 17 August, and will be completed by the end of the month. To qualify, makers should be new graduates or new to the industry and must have not exhibited at an event before. This would be a fantastic opportunity for newcomers to meet the public and receive feedback about their work, to understand the processes involved in participating in a fair of this nature and to meet established makers for networking and advice.

It was with great sadness that we learnt about the loss of Rachel Gogerly who died on Saturday.

Her career spanned many years, and during this time she had earned many prestigious awards, became a Freeman of The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths', and was also Chairman of the Guild of Enamellers during their 30th year.

Such a popular and talented woman who will be very much missed by us all.
