Day 3: Laser Cutting 101: Michelle Pajak-Reynolds visits Kendall College

Some of my fresh cut shapes on the LASER cutter after the scrap material was removed.

Yesterday was another great day in the Kendall College of Art and Design Jewelry/Metals Studio studio with Phil Renato. I spent the morning practicing my Adobe Illustrator skills. Since I like to work in multiples, I decided to experiment with a simple shape to see how many variations I could get from one form using Illustrator. My master plan is to use these variations as multiple elements in larger pieces.

The egg/petal form is one of my favorite shapes. In Illustrator I used the Pen tool to draw a variety of egg/petal shapes. Using the Blend tool, Phil showed me how create a smooth transition between different forms. The Blend tool quickly gives you all of the one of a kind shapes that fall between the two shapes you're blending, similar to the metamorphosis that you see in certain M.C. Escher prints.
