Oreo Cookie Bracelet
This bracelet is very uncomfortable to wear. It is intended to be a discussion of the term wearable. What does wearable really mean?
I think that our self-imposed limits on what is “wearable” are too narrow any way. Some cultures wear neck rings that stretch the neck. Ladies in Victorian society wore corsets that reshaped the body. Some fashionable high heel shoes are so high that they injure the feet and knees, but still many women choose to wear them daily.
What is accepted as “wearable” is clearly a cultural bias. Many people are filled with artificial fears about what they can’t wear, like, “I can’t wear big jewelry” .
How many of us have purchased a dress that we wore only once, yet we defined it as wearable. What role did that special dress play if it was worn only once yet, continues to hand in our closet? The dress is a signifier of an event, a memory, a concept.
This bracelet evokes a similar discussion. Buy it. Hang it on your wall. Find out what happens.
