A barbute is a visorless helmet common to the 14th and 15th centuries. Of Italian design, it was often produced with either a distinctive “T” or “Y” shaped opening for the eyes and mouth. The barbute resembled classical Greek helmets, particularly of the Corinthian style. This design may have been influenced by a renewed interest in Classical artifacts and architecture during the Renaissance period. This helmet was produced to be a historically accurate and functional helmet for Renaissance martial arts practice. It’s made of 12 ga. steel and features a quilted linen liner.
