Cold Genius" - a pendant based on an aria from Purcell's opera, "King Arthur". In this aria, the spirit of love comes down from the heaven to awaken winter from his icy slumber. I became obsessed by this piece of music some time ago and it wasn't until I had a discussion with a friend that I realised that the answer was to create a "theatre" in which the drama could be played out.

This is "Act 1": the box is closed and the inner curtain of snowflakes is in place. If you look closely, the face of the Cold Genius can be seen through the rutilated quartz. All the snowflakes and lettering were hand-cut and the back of the piece is engraved with the text of the aria.
