In the Moment

This is a new image of me cutting my hair as it falls into my hair necklace round my neck.

I am trying to convey the meaning of my work through the imagery so let me know if you connect with this image more than my other image of the piece round my neck.

I am setting up my installation this week with life size photos. I hope they work out, they are being printed as I type. :)

I have decided now to do this with all of my more recent work because it works so well. Thanks so much for helping convince me! :)

I do write about my work and the issues I am looking into, specifically the sexualization of the feminine body. I try to show the female body in a way that glorifies the issues surrounding it, for example the belief that long hair on a woman is alluring, so if a woman wants to cut her hair she may be free from the physical burden of long hair, but have identity burdens from castrating her long feminine tresses. Hence the hair chain illustrates both the beauty and the burden of long hair because it is a chain, but it also curls and acts like hair when it is on the body.

I may post a section of my writing on here, but let me know if you are interested in seeing more. I would like to look into suitable places for my work and writing, possibly craft, or art publications. Thanks again for your comment, it is very helpful.

This image really speaks of all the concepts that you have listed as important to your studies and exists as documentation of object and performance without losing the beauty of photography that is often distilled out of a documentary photo! Do you write extensively about the issues you are exploring in your work?
