From 1964 to 1972 he apprenticed for the metal arts in the traditional ways of the old world, as guided through organized guilds of Greece. His training was based on the Byzantine Art and in archaic designs. He specialized in repousse and filigree. Recently began experiments in the use of titanium for jewelery design.
In 1974 he opened his first studio in Athens, Greece. He immigrated to America in 1988 with his wife and daughter.
Stefan Alexandres teaches at the Crealde School of Art in Winter Park Florida www.crealde.org and with the Florida Society of Goldsmiths.
He received a United Arts of Central Florida individual artists award in 2007 and 2010.

- The titanium collection is the the new generation of my work, a vital and creative experience.
I have broken new ground working with titanium that transcends the traditional craft and applications I had learned in my earlier years. After three years of success in creating titanium jewelry, I am continuing a coherent path in authenticity and experimentation,
The character and the concept of my art work is based on my intuition for singular designs.
My vision for the collection is to exhibit poetic, yet contemporary jewelry in art, design, craftsmanship and fashion.
The rationale for using TI= titanium is the specific identity of the metal and belongs to a new era with a dynamic quality. It is strong as steel but 45% lighter; hypoallergenic and 100% resistant to corrosion. Anodized titanium brings out brilliant colors on the metal surface. TI as a medium supports environmental ethics regarding mining and refinery. Art jewelry made with titanium can help the wearer and-or the maker to engage in a environmental activism without compromising quality or craftsmanship.
This exotic metal with it's unique characteristics and properties, is especially challenging to work with and has very different fabrication techniques from the traditional metals. Titanium has had a tremendous success on industrial technology and modern ingenuity.
On the contrary, with art studios, only few dare to play/craft with titanium and expose the exotic metal to the trade. So, as there is much to learn, the journey continues with gratification and infinite designing possibilities. I push the fabrication process to its limits in experimentation with line and form, be they straight and austere or curved and intricate.
My intention with the photographic samples is to realistically represent the original art piece and to capture the real color on the anodized titanium work.
This statement is made to inform the viewer that I avoid any digital-computed manipulation to alter the color quality on the images. The photographs is made with great emphasis on the brilliant colors as they develop after the anodizing application.
The anodizing process creates colors on the surface of titanium, without the use of patinas, dyes or pigments. The higher the voltage load thru the electrolysis, a thicker oxidation develops.
The various thickness of oxidation generate different colors as reflected light passing thru the oxidized surface.
I draw inspiration from history, mythologies, folktales, and real life. I make my own preliminary drawings to lay out the subject and make the idea suitable for the metal sculpture; exploring the potential inspiration with pencil, rendering many visual possibilities.
