Ceramicist CJ Niehaus Recipient of 2017 LEAP AWARD

Contemporary Craft in Pittsburgh, PA, and juror Brigitte Martin, founder & editor of crafthaus, are excited to announce that ceramic artist CJ Niehaus of Cincinnati, OH is the winner of our 2017 Lydon Emerging Arts Program (LEAP) Award.

“Bowls, cups and plates speak to friends, family and the sharing of experiences.  These vessels contain nourishment and the memories of shared meals and stories. The human hand connects to these objects, making them personal and intimate. To touch and be touched is very human and very clay.” --CJ Niehaus

Celebrating its 10-year anniversary, the LEAP Award was established in 2007 in honor of Contemporary Craft Director of Exhibitions Kate Lydon’s 20-years of service. The program recognizes exceptional emerging talent in the contemporary craft field and provides opportunities for early career artists to bring their artwork to the consumer market.

The yearlong retail program features, markets, and sells the work of one winner, who also receives a $1000 prize, and six finalists.
