Some of you may be aware that due to the restructure at the University for the Creative Arts there are no longer Course Leader positions. I will be finishing as Course Leader of the postgraduate programmes (MA Ceramics, MA Glass, MA Jewellery, MA Metalwork, MA Product Design and MA Textiles) in the School of Craft and Design at the end of August.
This will give me the opportunity to undertake a few projects that are already underway, for example, I have won an Arts Council England Lottery Fund to work with organisations across Farnham to build October as craft month. Investments will be made in a craft commission, a street gallery, exhibitions, talks and a one-day international symposium to explore ideas around what a craft town might be. As a Farnham Craft Town supporter, I have also been invited to apply for World Craft City status.
I also intend to continue my part-time PhD research programme, and I have a continuing interest in education and craft and design practices. When students graduate from jewellery courses there is an under researched period of time between leaving university and beginning a sustainable practice. This stage for jewellery graduates is the centre of my project. I will research and analyse a period of time from leaving education to see if the findings highlight any key actions, decisions and information that graduates live and experience that can inform how we support and empower graduates to establish a longer-term sustainable practice.
I will also be undertaking some visiting lecturer and sessional teaching roles at the University for the Creative Arts ensuring I continue my contact and support of students at all levels. I will continue my jewellery practice, undertaking commissions and selling my work through various avenues.
I will be available for other appointments, creative projects, opportunities and collaborations.
