PARTICIPATORY SPORT FOR CRAFT ARTISTS
Century Project was commissioned through Stonington Gallery in Seattle, and is a multi-media work that tells the life story of one man. Beginning ten years before his birth, the timeline illustrates life events and personal journeys until age 90....hence the name: Century Project. Because the subject is in his fifties, the latter portion of his life is forecast, illustrating natural events like deaths and births, and unknown possibilities including intent and wishes. It is a meditation on the past, present, and future.
The micro-mosaic portion of Century Project measures 2 inches high and 100 inches long--an inch represents one year. It is comprised entirely of glass seed beads and gemstones, over which colored grouts were applied to seal the micro-mosaic and manipulate the colors and textures, giving depth. An estimate counts the number of beads at approximately 75,000.
This project as a whole is still under construction; the micro-mosaic is complete, and the other elements that will make up the total display are in the design phase. The micro-mosaic will eventually be framed and mounted in front of a large image of the night sky.

For the next 13 months we'll discuss the trials, triumphs, and tribulations of exhibiting in art shows as emerging artists and established artists. Exhibition coverage will be balanced with tips on how to strategically build a legacy over a length of time, in a way that makes sense to your individual goals as an artist and maker.
Join us each month! There will be surprises around every corner, with photos, videos, SNAG conference coverage, and occasional interviews by rising artists!
Please support this effort:
A group of 10 young US jewelry artists will attend Sierrad this Fall showing their work to the European market - and bringing back exciting info for all of us!
