Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

There were great discussions about tool-making and lots of practical tips at our 20:20 Visions conference earlier this month, thanks to Tim Blades' workshop session.

It takes a careful blend of science, craft and compassion to make a prosthetic eye
https://aeon.co/videos/it-takes-a-careful-blend-of-science-craft-an...

The exposed surface of the human eye is extraordinarily complex and frequently the crux of social interactions, which makes crafting a prosthesis an intricate and delicate task. Few people know this better than David Carpenter, an ocularist at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and part of a team responsible for making some 1,400 artificial eyes a year. In this short documentary from the UK filmmaker Barry J Gibb, Carpenter takes us through his process step by step, from measurements to the final polish. The resulting video is not for the squeamish: a fascinating mix of craftsmanship, artistry and human biology.
