Interdisciplinary. Community. Advocacy. Humor.
Last weekend, I had the privilege of spending my time at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts doing research and brainstorming on a future project.
Did you know there are 10.000 (ten thousand) books on art and craft at the Arrowmont library? Neither did I. If you haven't seen this for yourself, you simply cannot imagine the wealth of information available there. For free! Pull one book out, then the next, and the next. After a while, patterns, lines, and connections emerge. The vague idea you had in your mind earlier, suddenly becomes clear.
I love my job.
Thank you, Bill May, for the hospitality and exchange of thought.
Anyone been at this hidden gem of a library as well? LMK about your experience.

When I taught at Arrowmont, the Library was a great place to cool off, take a breather from the intensity of the classroom. The interchange between instructors and students between every one of the studios was energizing. For example, when my class produced etched plates for printing metal clay, the printmaking instructor helped my students use those plates to print small books of all their images. What a terrific resource Arrowmont is.
A great place to think and get pushed into new directions.
i taught at arrowmont from june 25 - july 8. it was a combined metals & enamels workshop. we decided to incorporate some of the ideas from other instructors' workshops into our work. collaborating with instructors brought me to the library and i borrowed books to facilitate our work. the students in one of the classes about which we were researching, loved our choices! and i bought some of them myself online afterward! i also just bought 5 past issues of "ceramic art & perception" from their "for sale" area. it is one of the coziest libraries and lots of computers available too.
