For Mother's Day I took some time out, just for me. Hubby was grilling dinner and I was happily designing this little pendant in my studio.
This was a challenging piece. The turtle is sterling silver so it needed a depletion gilding before the metal would fuse to the fine silver metal clay. That being done I have to figure out how to get the turtle to look like it was crawling onto the stone, kind of teetering there over the bezel.
With the turtle being fused on to the bezel, I had to set the stone with his little behind in my way. An interesting challenge.
The symbolism behind this pendant is the Labradorite stone represents the ocean and after a long struggle across the hot sand fraught with danger of getting gobbled up by hungry seagulls, the baby turtle makes it to the water. All us Momma turtles want to see their babies make it safely on their own.
Those were my thoughts this Mother's Day. I hope you all had as wonderful a day as I did.
