We're moving in two directions at once with the engraving. First, just learning engraving is time consuming. Second we want to develop our own voice with the technique. We're really old school and were taught to study the traditional and classic forms, understand them, and THEN start breaking the rules. So we're enmeshed in traditional cowboy western engraving technique while studying eastern style and design.
This pair of earrings was just to try our hand at a traditional Turkish design. It is a very different technique than western engraving. Or maybe it just turned out that way because we don't know what we are doing yet.
