You may have heard all the ruckus about Pinterest of late and wondered, why is this such a big deal? It looks like this is just a successful social networking site that is driving lots of traffic to my Etsy shop.  Well…not exactly.   Read on and I’ll explain how sites like Pinterest really make money.  Note: I am using Pinterest as just one example of a type of website/business model that is growing rapidly.

Pinterest makes money by directing traffic to websites who agree to…

Hi John,

I just found out today that you are running.  That is wonderful.  I wanted to let you know that I really enjoy you and your wife's work.  When I heard that you might be running, I did some research.  Just beautiful!! Warmly, Renee

The fellowship is for 2011. I had to write an artist statement, a proposal on how to use the funds and submit up to 15 images of my work. (I submitted 12.) It still hasn't fully sunk in. I'm exhausted from all the tension and stress. I'm also relieved and incredibly honored and humbled by it all...

To continue: 5 fellowships were awarded on Monday evening. The remaining 25 applications were reviewed today. 12 more fellowships were given this morning. I wasn't 1 of the 17 so far. Only 3 fellowships were left and I was really certain that I'd get nothing. After another review, 2 more fellowships were given, I was the 19th. It was torture to sit and endure all that but when I heard my application number announced, I was in shock. A friend, who was at the review, e-mailed me and congratulated me. I still didn't believe it, I e-mailed her twice more just to verifyi!

Thank you! I am still in shock and it all seems so surreal! It was a county residents-only fellowship. 310 applications were eligible - only 30 applications made it through the first round cut. Of the 30, only 20 would receive $20,000 fellowships and 2 would receive lesser monetary amounts / 'alternate' status. I was so sure that I would be 1 of the 8 that would get nothing. I went to the first day of the reviews to see my application and hear panel comments. The rest of the 3 days, I listened to the live stream audo over the internet.
