Crafting this Antipodean Place

Australian landscapes are old, powerful and strange to Eurocentric eyes. To Indigenous Australia, whose pre-colonial history stretches back something like 60,000 years, every part of the landscape was active and spirited, full of story, meaning and relatedness. Contemporary mainstream Australia views the land as a resource to be measured, assessed, and exploited, without agency and devoid of meaning beyond economic value. This exhibition presents the work of Australian craft artists who engage…See More

Berea is an amazing place to work. In exchange for a 10 hour labor position, I get a tuition free scholarship from Berea College. After an intro class, I was allowed to apply for the apprenticeship program and now I make around 900$ worth of functional pottery each semester for the college to sell. The best part is, I get studio time each day, but I do not intend to become a ceramics professional - it's my passion and my therapy. I love it.

Hello John,

Welcome to crafthaus, the network for craft artists and those who support them! I am very glad you joined us! Your crafthaus membership is valid through November 15, 2013.

Please look around and add your thoughts to the groups, blogs and discussions. Crafthaus is a participatory sport!

Please note that ALL images sent to the website are vetted to assure a measure of overall quality control. Unlike other image sharing websites, crafthaus is not a "free-for-all". Our members present their work in front of an educated and critical audience so the photos have to be GREAT. Our goal is to show our members' work in the best possible light. From the many images received daily, we aim to post as many as possible. Crafthaus heartily encourages comments from the membership, however, with regard to photos posted or not, we have a strict "NO WHINING" policy in effect! If your images don't get posted they do not meet crafthaus quality standards. Please review the photo guidelines under the FAQ tab.

If there are ever any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to email me via crafthauseditor at live dot com, I will do my best to be of help.

I hope you will enjoy being with this network, and will find the exchanges interesting and fun.

Again: Welcome !

Brigitte Martin

SNAG Toronto part 4

I'll leave my Toronto report with a few notes about the conference lectures and presentations. I'd have to say that there certainly was a mosaic of diversity in the 3+ days at the Royal York Hotel. From Damian Skinner's stoic keynote series on the jewelry making/marketing universe in his musical New Zealand accent, through a series of very short "rapid-fire" presentations by a wide variety of artists, to the Professional Development Seminar that lashed the artists and their works to the…See More
