my work in an upcoming show in Seattle

My work will be in a show during the SNAG conference in Seattle this month. It's called "Art by Attrition" and it's at KOBO at Higo gallery. The theme of the show is artwork made by the subtractive process. The show will be May 26th - June 25th, 2011.

Two weeks ago I came back to the US after spending the last year teaching English at a high school in South Korea. It was a good experience and I'm glad I did it. I had been thinking of teaching English in Asia for about the past 15 years, and I finally did it. When I left for Korea last year I was totally burnt out working in my studio, and sick of the things I was making. I thought taking at least one year off would be good for me and my work. Saul Bell finalist

My scale necklace is a finalist in the 2011 Saul Bell competition in the silver category. The piece is at my parents house in the US, so I'll have them send it in for the final judging by mid January. The winners will be announced at the beginning of June 2011.…

Studio Sanctuaries - Part 2

A show at Crafthaus has more of an audience then a gallery and offers a permanent stage to the world. We do love gallery shows, but at Crafthaus submission is easy, doesn't cost anything for members. In addition to our calls there are others you may be interested in.

Please feel free to look around, meet friends, and start adding your thoughts to the groups, blogs and discussion forums that are posted. Of course, if there is something else you'd much rather talk about, please add that to the site so that the rest of us can chime in. Crafthaus is a participatory sport ! The more you put into it, the more you will get out of it, for sure.
Please note that crafthaus is both a fully edited and a member-financed website, meaning that a small annual fee ($20/yr or $35/2yrs) is involved in being a member here. You will find all the necessary information on how to go about this in the FAQs section of the site. Your membership fee is due on or before August 15, 2010 and is payable through paypal (preferred,) US check or credit card.
ALL images sent to the website editor will be vetted to assure some measure of overall quality control. Unlike other image sharing websites, crafthaus is not a "free-for-all". Members present their work in front of an educated and critical audience (their peers,) so the images have to be GREAT. Our goal is to show our members' work in the best possible light, and from the many images received daily, we try to post as many as possible. Crafthaus heartily encourages comments from the membership, however with regard to photos posted or not, we have a strict "NO WHINING" policy in effect ! If your photos do not get posted they are just not as good as they need to be. Yes, it's really that simple. Just reshoot and resubmit ! No harm done.
Finally, if there are ever any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to email me via crafthauseditor@live.com anytime. I will do my best to be of help. I really hope you will enjoy being with this network, and will find the exchanges interesting and fun.

For the next 13 months we'll discuss the trials, triumphs, and tribulations of exhibiting in art shows as emerging artists and established artists. Exhibition coverage will be balanced with tips on how to strategically build a legacy over a length of time, in a way that makes sense to your individual goals as an artist and maker.
