LUIS MÉNDEZ ARTESANOS means 84 years as craftsmen jewellers and three generations of filigree makers. Brothers, Luis, Raúl and Jerónimo Méndez have become a frame of reference for recovering filigree, a discarded technique, for contemporary jewellery. Their work shows and disseminates the potencial of this ancient technique, which they apply to both their classic and contemporary pieces.
The process of making of each one of their jewels requires the exclusive dedication of their expert hands, which is what makes them truly one-of-a-kind pieces.

The Mendez's work has garnered widespread recognition both nationally and internationally. They earned a special mention at the 2004 and 2006 ARTFAD Price, were short-listed for the 2007 and 2013 Spanish National Crafts Awards, won the 2009 Castilla y León Craft Career Award and International Award in Oman in 2012. Their authenticity has also earned them an elected to take part in the 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 Santa Fe Folk Art Market in New Mexico

What media do you work with?
Filigree:

The working of precious metals whereby gold or silver form a pattern similar to lacework and give aesthetic value by filling empty space.

Strands of metal that are straight or twisted (braided) are formed into intricate structures or applied to sheets of metal. This ancient technique has been used since Greek and Phoenician colonizers of Spain and Portugal introduced it.

Hello Luis,

Welcome to crafthaus, the network for craft artists and those who support them! I am very glad you joined us! Your crafthaus membership is valid through March 15, 2015.

Please look around, add your thoughts to the groups, blogs and discussions and post images and video. Crafthaus is a participatory sport so don't hold back. We truly welcome your blogs, discussions and comments. This is the point of crafthaus!

Please note that ALL images sent to the website are vetted to assure a measure of overall quality control. Unlike other image sharing websites, crafthaus is not a "free-for-all". Our members present their work in front of an educated and critical audience so the photos have to be GREAT. Our goal is to show our members' work in the best possible light. From the many images received daily, we aim to post as many as possible. Crafthaus heartily encourages comments from the membership, however, with regard to photos posted or not, we have a strict "NO WHINING" policy in effect! If your images don't get posted they do not meet crafthaus quality standards. Please refer to the photo guidelines under the FAQ tab for questions.

If there are ever any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to email me via crafthauseditor at live dot com, I will do my best to be of help. I hope you will enjoy being with this network, and will find the exchanges interesting and fun. If you have some time, please take a look at this document, it provides background info about our network and can help to get you off to a good start.
