Describe your media/materials you work with
jewelry, metals, mixed media, My work explores the rigmarole of the daily cosmetic routines women create for themselves as well as taking inspiration from the two opposing ideas people tend to have of vanity: clinical cosmetics and the notion of a 50's boudoir filled with perfume atomizers and suspenders. By combining the clinical with intrinsically feminine touches, a unique, contemporary collection is created.

"The only cure for vanity is laughter, and the only fault that is laughable is vanity." Henri Bergson

Inspired by the above quote, I was interested in using a mark-making element in my pieces to recreate the humorous aspects of make up, such as loose powder spilling inside its wearer's handbag. By combining vanity-inspired quotes, cosmetics and cosmetic applicators as well as vintage textiles with silver and laser cutting techniques, I have created a unique collection of wearable messages.

Hello Nicola,

Thanks for adding me as a friend. I do love your take on the female vanity procedures. I do have a lot of female friends that would benefit from the sayings on your powder puffs:))

Your contribution to the exhibit "Me, Myself and I" was inspiring!

Best, Sophia

Hello, We jury some of the art exhibitions here at Crafthaus. We want to invite you to look at our 2 calls:

Me, Myself and I
http://crafthaus.ning.com/group/crafthausexhibition/forum/topics/open-callme-myself-and-i

Earthly Pleasures http://crafthaus.ning.com/group/crafthausexhibition/forum/topics/open-call-earthly-pleasures

We try to make the process as painless as possible. A show at Crafthaus has more of an audience then a gallery and offers a permanent stage. We do love gallery shows, but here at Crafthaus submission is easy, doesn't cost anything for members.

Hope you enjoy Crafthaus, lots of great artists to connect with...good discussions.

Glen

Call for artists....

"Behind the Brooch"

I have always thought that the back of a jewelry piece is as important as the front. If you feel the same way, consider sending images of the front and backside of your brooches to Lorena Angulo asap. Lorena is looking for images to place in a future crafthaus online exhibition!
