Play That Funky Music !

Exhibition Date May 1 - June 1, 2014 You hear a piece of music and it sends you back in time. Suddenly you remember situations, sights, smells, and certain people as if it happened yesterday. What is the relationship between music and craft? Are there craft pieces that relate to favorite songs? How about a vase made while listening to opera? A table inspired by hard rock? Footwear to go with Lady Gaga? What are the lyrics that draw you in and inspire you to create?See More

Dear Poppy,

Welcome to crafthaus, the network for craft artists and those who support them! I am very glad you joined us! Your crafthaus membership is valid through August 15, 2013.

Please look around and add your thoughts to the groups, blogs and discussions. Crafthaus is a participatory sport!

Please note that ALL images sent to the website are vetted to assure a measure of overall quality control. Unlike other image sharing websites, crafthaus is not a "free-for-all". Our members present their work in front of an educated and critical audience so the photos have to be GREAT. Our goal is to show our members' work in the best possible light. From the many images received daily, we aim to post as many as possible. Crafthaus heartily encourages comments from the membership, however, with regard to photos posted or not, we have a strict "NO WHINING" policy in effect! If your images don't get posted they do not meet crafthaus quality standards. Please review the photo guidelines under the FAQ tab.

If there are ever any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to email me via crafthauseditor at live dot com, I will do my best to be of help.

I hope you will enjoy being with this network, and will find the exchanges interesting and fun.

Again: Welcome !

I’ve finally started work on my Strange Attractors Project, its been on my mind for a while now (you will notice it is also the title of my blog and is a phrase I use to describe my creative process, it is actually something complicated to do with maths but that’s not necessarily relevant) and will be recording progress and posting updates on my blog http://www.blog.poppyporter.co.uk/wordpress/.  I will be…

Ear Splitting F1 Sketching Session Sparks a New Collection

It was during a visit to the Formula 1 paddock with a sketchbook and some ear defenders at last year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed that I found the inspiration for my new Racing Wings jewellery collection.  This new collection will be on show and available to buy during London Jewellery Week at Treasure, Somerset House 13-16th June.

I am a big F1 fan and love to draw my inspiration from the…

Down to the Waterline – “Stain-Less” in Sheffield

Posted on May 22, 2013 at 6:21am 2 Comments

They like their fountains in Sheffield.  The first thing that greets you on leaving the railway station is a wonderful cascade of water.  I walked across the city centre to my hotel and the peace gardens had fabulous fountains and children leaping around them, it seemed every courtyard was running water for the newly warming Springtime.…

A modern metalsmith/metal artist can be found working in traditional metals as well as in nontraditional materials. The designs can range from the classic to the extravagant, and the techniques can either be centuries old or decidedly current.

The wide range of expression preferences, design options, materials, and processes has lead within our field to unfavorable misconceptions, misunderstandings and in some cases even outright disdain between artists. Can the metal and jewelry field overcome its division and send out a much-needed signal?

We appreciate and respect our historical past and acknowledge that current materials have a rightful place in jewelry/object making!

Arriving at this message is the goal of this traveling exhibition opening at the SNAG conference in Boston 2015, Velvet da Vinci, San Francisco, CA - Aug 19 - Sept 20, 2015, Equinox Gallery, San Antonio, TX - Oct 16 - Nov 15, 2015, Baltimore Jewelry Center, Baltimore, MD - Dec 11, 2015 - Jan 08, 2016, Brooklyn Metal Works, Brooklyn, NY - Feb 5 - Mar 4, 2016.

DETAILS on exhibition premise, call for artists, submission guidelines.....
