While I was in Genova, I went to see the newest contemporary jewellery gallery in the town, Te.Ta.Bu., located in a back street near the castle gate in the ancient part of the city. Run by Camilla Teglio, Barbara Taramasso and Emanuela Burlando, this gallery aims to showcase the works of the makers as well as others.
The gallery is small and inviting and though it has no window display space, has made inventive use of the old inn in which it is housed, incorporating both workshop and gallery space.
The gallery is in both the upper section of the space next to the workshops and also in the basement, which used to be the wine-cellar.
Below, right to left, Camilla Teglio, Barbara Taramasso, János Gabor Varga, Me and Dingo.
Worth a visit if visiting the city in which there is very little contemporary jewellery on display.
(Though I did rather like this trashy lizard necklace, seen in a mainstream shop!)

Love the little gallery-looks like a real find!
Of course, I am quite prolifically tattooed myself... More tomorrow. Bed time here!
Sometime in 1986 or '87 I hung out on my 3rd floor fire escape of the cockroach-infested, 400 S.F. walk-up apartment over an appliance store I lived in at the time and watched Mr. T, whose image you have in your short but great blog post, shoot an episode of the A Team down in the alley below my fire escape stairs. He wasn't wearing any of this stuff, and looked pretty...normal. Interesting.... There are so many layers to this and other body adornments, and we can look at so many intriguing historical references...you have piqued my interest! I have done a LOT of thinking lately about tattooing....I'm the Mom of a tattooed daughter who just had her first baby...and I'm also a teacher of art to children who make it verbally clear that people who tattoo themselves are super weird losers! I have so many conflicting thoughts about this artistic practice....some art ideas have been swirling for awhile for me around my conflict with this topic, wrapped up in the way I was raised in the 60's, my artistic and wild, creative nature, cultural identity, historical and cultural reference, and more. There is psychology and some pretty intriguingly deep thought that I need to go into with this topic! Recently, a friend who is a BRILLIANT artist, got her whole back tattooed. I was ready to see a WOW design done by her...and was so disturbed and surprised to see her very typical, raunchy and straight-outta-da-book image that covered her whole back. What the....? I just cant get it....
Oh! How appropriate... I have been obsessing about Hip-Hop jewellery recently too. Have a look at my post on the subject here. I've no idea how it came about that I started to think about it, but I realised that there is a huge similarity between this recent movement and the jewels of the Renaissance which I adore so much.
Last year, I specifically tackled hip-hop jewellery with "(Don't Worry) If There's A Hell Below (We're All Gonna Go)", named after the Curtis Mayfield song, music from a black perspective which is political and not enmeshed in the horrific gun-toting misogynist swagger which seems to dominate a lot of the current rap.
As to the lizard, I can't lay claim to having made that one. I just meant that it is an idea I really feel like stealing and making my own.
It is just stupendous...is that your original design? I LOVE the sheer audacity of the size...reminds me of rapper necklaces.
It has to be said that I think that "obnoxious" lizard might be getting remade by me in a slightly different form!
Looks like a really cool space and I must admit to coveting that really obnoxious lizard necklace!!!!!
