PLAYING WITH PEWTER!
February 19th – 20th, 10am – 5pm
Pewter, made up of antimony, copper, and tin is one of the most mysterious of the non-ferrous metals. Due to it's very low melting temperature and high malleability it can be moved faster and in different ways than other metals.
In this workshop, students will form a beautiful contemporary pewter vase using forming, fusing, soldering, and finishing techniques. For this particular project, we will not use hammers, or stakes or a press, we will form with almost no forming at all, but rather by using the easy malleability and wonders of fusing to create a unique shape. Along with the vase, we will add in some other smaller projects including quick castings and a utensil. Students will create as many things as their time permits, but all will create several finished pieces. This is a fun, fast paced workshop that allows the student to make an impressive piece in a short amount of time with lots of hands on instruction. There will be an advanced project available to students who have already taken a workshop with Lisa.
During this two day workshop Lisa will also hold a lecture open to all MAG members on Saturday evening. Bring your copy of Lisa’s new book for her to sign or bring your checkbook to pick one up there!
