SOURCE: It's Nice That
By Jenny Brewer
Remember those rubbish bins that looked like happy frogs, to entice children to have fun feeding it with their trash? Well, KesselsKramer has tried entirely the opposite approach with its campaign for Koning Willem I College in The Netherlands. Through a series of ludicrous rubbish bins, the Amsterdam-based agency has made it really difficult for students to discard their litter, challenging their competitive sides.
“The students seem to have some difficulties with throwing away their trash,” says agency co-founder Erik Kessels, “so we decided to make a campaign asking, ‘Throwing away your trash, how hard can it be?’”
Instead of making things easier and fool-proof, the design firm went the playful route, making disposing of trash a challenge for the kids on this school playground. Adults would probably love a trash challenge as well. Stimulating a more thoughtful approach to trash collection...and great fun too. Design that "works."
Would like to hear your opinions on this campaign, see your examples of other ideas that help with trash collection in a creative way. Anything done in the craft world?

Exactly. Love the soft sarcasm included in this project, and gratis too. Ha.
While this idea could be perceived as clever or fun, I wonder "how hard can it be" to throw trash into a trash can right near by, or a few steps away, yet they throw trash out their window, or on the ground.
I think it is a great idea, Debbie Downer wonders how it works in reality.
How lovely to see a society where play is encouraged as a part of everyday life and where "health and safety" (ie: fear of litigation) is not the overriding consideration.
