Interdisciplinary. Community. Advocacy. Humor.
Hello! My name is Roswell Duncan Bryant Blount. I’m 21 years old, and I currently attend Berea College as both an English major and a Ceramics Apprentice. I work 10 hours a week to pay for my tuition, during which I make mugs and bowls for the craft program. As part of an outreach program, I demonstrate making pots to members of the community. I also am a Senator for the Student Government, and an ambassador to alumni and friends of the college who come for visits.
Ceramics brings me a powerful sense of joy, expression, and therapy. Ever since I can remember my dad had a wheel and a small kiln. I even have small cups that he helped me create when I was in preschool. He loved raku firings, and would invite friends over whenever it was time to fire. Pottery represents a peaceful, calm time of my life. I can always escape into the vessels I’m making.
I’ve lived in southern Iowa and central North Carolina, but for now, Berea College, Kentucky is my home. From there, I’ve travelled to Indonesia for a peace conference, multiple U.S. cities for summer classes, and all over Kentucky on adventures. For fun, I rock climb, go camping, play guitar, write music. I'd like to one day be an environmental lawyer.
