I am seeking some really great, positive artists whose art is informed by an "invisible" challenge. Are you an artist doing work conceptually inspired by epilepsy? Depression? Bipolar? Deafness? or? Do you know an artist who you might recommend?
The idea for this exhibition happened when my deafness -- the most challenging of my medical issues and something I pretended didn’t exist for most of my life -- began insinuating itself into my creative fiber art practice. I…

I am the curator of a wonderful exhibition on "hidden" or Invisible Disabilities, to be held in Atlanta, Georgia in April 2015, at Mason Murer Gallery. It is sponsored by VSA, the arts for disabilities in Atlanta. Artists so far are from Canada, the U.S. and South Africa. This is going to be an amazing opportunity for artists to showcase work about physical and mental challenges they face, and that most people do not think about!
Specifications:
1) The art work MUST in some way…

Leisa, Thanks for connecting. No, the ear is not medical. . .this piece is about (and for) my son, Ky. It is specifically about how I have been able to experience the world through him: his interest in magnifying glasses to inspect small things, for instance. The vine growing out of the ear (which was literally sculpted while I observed his ear) references the story that children are told when they swallow a melon seed--that it will grow inside of them, and possibly out their ears. Hope that clarifies! Leah
thanks lisa- love your work. you have a fantastic color sense.
Nice to meet you! Glad you like my work and I am totally digging yours too! I see you are a UNT graduate as well, awesome!
sorry for the misspelling-- i mean Leisa!
it's so nice to meet you Lisa, your work is incredible!
Lisa, thanks for the invitation, sorry for the delayed response.
Hi Lisa! Thanks for the invite to connect and your kind words about my work! Your installations are so colorful and just amazing.
Believe me, I do already! (mix fibers in with my work) Hoping to work this summer on a series of figurative hybrid doll-forms -- traditional textile materials mostly, with found and fabricated objects glommed on.
Hi, Lisa,
I love your work too (and envy your productivity!!!)! Those embroidered birds are freaking amazing. In my next life, I'm going to be a fiber artist!
Thanks for the friend request, ;]
