I am a .... Example: Student, Maker, Educator, etc.
I create elaborate pieces of beaded armor and chainmaille fashion. My desire is to create work that pushes the boundaries of what people expect from both media while also exploring the intersections of armor and fashion. I'm focused on the question of how we use objects of adornment to simultaneously communicate who we are to others while also protecting ourselves from the vulnerability of that communication.

Posted on March 20, 2012 at 1:44pm 0 Comments

Last week, before running off to Santa Fe to teach, I launched a Kickstarter project.  My goal is to raise funds for supplies for a chainmaille wedding dress.  I make chainmaille jewelry for a living and chainmaille clothing for fun, and this is the next epic project that I'd like to work on.  The dress will be made from nearly 90,000 rings, with another 10,000 rings for a veil, each individually woven together with just two pairs of pliers.  My hope is to submit it to the World of Wearable…

Really, your jacket is incredibly beautiful. Very impressive use of color too.
I would never have the patience for that, and would never have imagined something like that could be done. What a fabulous way to modernize chainmail.

SNAG Toronto 1.0

Okay, I'm better organized now. I'm going to submit a series of blogs over the next few days on the SNAG show. They'll all tie together in the end. The first point for me to make is that Brigitte Martin is a real sweetheart! It was a treat to meet her and catch hold of some of her enthusiasm. If you get a chance to meet her I highly recommend it.Alright, here we go...I was born in Toronto and spent 14 of my first 21 years bere before I moved to New England. 290° - The first of the Scottish degree shows

It is that time of year again, when the degree shows in Scotland all kick off. As usual, the roll is started by Dundee's Duncan of Jordanstone College of  Art & Design - DJCAD for short. Regular readers of my blog will know that Dundee is my favourite Scottish city and has been for many, many years, so it is something of a surprise to realise that until last…See More
