Toshiko Takaezu 1922-2011

Toshiko Takaezu was an especially strong influence on my work as a potter in the early 1970’s.  She made wonderful large, quiet pieces and was a strong role model for me as a woman in a field then heavily dominated by men.  Her esthetic has continued to be a reminder to me as a metalsmith of the strength and beauty in seemingly simple organic forms.

Safe journey, Toshiko…

I do think it's fun to see if I can give the pieces a certain monumentality even if they are small in scale, and appreciate your comment very much. Your work is fascinating. What presence. A lovely pairing of organic and rock-hard elements. And very sculptural.

"Behind the Brooch"

I have always thought that the back of a jewelry piece is as important as the front. If you feel the same way, consider sending images of the front and backside of your brooches to Lorena Angulo asap. Lorena is looking for images to place in a future crafthaus online exhibition!
