CALL FOR ENTRY: “Shifting Sites”
Contemporary metalsmithing is a dynamic field, marked by ever-expanding possibilities for the creation and presentation of work. “Shifting Sites,” SNAG’s 2016 Juried Exhibition in Print produced by Metalsmith, will showcase works that explore the changing spaces of jewelry and objects as they are conceived, made, and displayed. Jurors Eva Eisler, Lauren Fensterstock, and Lori Talcott are seeking examples that creatively engage with their environment.
For this “Shifting Sites” issue, the emphasis is on location or place as either subject or actual space for the creation and display of work. The jurors welcome works that expand and explore the “where” of contemporary metalsmithing. As a subject for metalsmithing, “site” can be understood as geography, landscape or cityscape and be revealed in imagery or forms that reference natural settings, architecture, urban or rural spaces. Actual space of a piece can refer to where the idea was realized, the physical location of construction, where it is worn, or where it is displayed or sold.
“Shifting Sites” broadly refers to the changing boundaries in metalsmithing practice.

One of the things I love most about the SNAG community is the diversity of passions, interests and goals of our members. I'm always inspired by the dedication, commitment and persistence of SNAG members in reaching for these goals. If only all of our bank accounts could keep up with our dreams. Here are three awesome SNAG ladies, each with very different aspirations, but all in need of financial assistance.…Continue

Year-end donation ask time, oh, how I dread thee - and I know I am not alone. Do you, like me, think you should donate but then oftentimes don’t go through with it because you are (a) not rich enough to support every worthy cause and (b) worried that your comparatively tiny donation probably won’t matter anyway? For instance, do you enjoy what SNAG has to offer and know they really need the money, but ....
Well, to cut this short, this year I decided to buckle down and donate to SNAG! I can’t give thousands of dollars but I know that even my few bucks will count, will be noticed, will be effective and will support something that is really important to you and me: our community of fellow metalsmiths and the message that needs to get out there that what we do is great. I mean, really, what is more important than jewelry and metals? Anyone?
So, can I ask you to send in a donation as well, please? Absolutely every amount counts and is noticed. Can you do it now? It rally takes just 10 seconds of your time. Here is the link:

Thank you very much!

PS: Money is what keeps things afloat. It’s really that simple. Your contribution and your involvement matter very much, particularly to a small arts organization like SNAG. Thank you again!
Update: SNAG's informational blurb regarding the 2013 Online Exhibition:
"Contemporary Goldsmithing: Tradition & Excellence"
For centuries, master goldsmiths worked with precious metals, gemstones, and pearls, delivering highly desired jewelry and hollowware to courts and churches. The traditional techniques and skills needed to produce extraordinary pieces have changed little over time. Shown in museums, acquired for private collections, sold at esteemed auction houses, and universally revered, the finest examples of contemporary goldsmithing continue to astound viewers with their timeless beauty and skillful execution.
