DeFine Metal and Fiber

DeFine Metal and Fiber features works that combine metal with fiber or that are made of metal using fiber techniques. These works defy our expectations, showing us how artists are reaching across media boundaries to express themselves.

Dear Laura:

Welcome to crafthaus, the network for artists, craftsmen/women ! I am very glad you joined us ! It's great to see another Pittsburgher here on the site :-)

Please add your thoughts to the blogs and discussion forums that are already posted. Of course, if there is something else you'd much rather talk about, please add that to the site so that the rest of us can chime in.

I really hope you will enjoy being with this network and find the exchanges interesting and fun. The more you put into it, the more you will get out of it, for sure.

Please note that crafthaus is a fully member-financed website, meaning that a small annual fee is involved in being a member . You will find all the necessary information on how to go about this in the FAQs section of the site. Your membership fee ($20 for a year or $35 for 2 yrs) is due June 15 and payable through paypal (preferred, a direct link is provided on the crafthaus main page) check or credit card (email me -crafthauseditor@live.com-for details.)

Finally, if there are ever any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to email me anytime. I will do my best to be of help.

Again: Welcome and enjoy !

Behind the Brooch part 2

I am happy to share with all of you more images of wonderful brooches from artists around the word. I had so many submissions on my first call that I had to create a second part exhibition. This exhibition focuses on a side of the brooch we usually do not pay much attention to: the back side. Our first look is naturally always trained at the front, but when we do take the time to look at the back of a brooch, it will oftentimes reveal a surprising aspect for us, a delightful little secret. On the Boardwalk

"thanks stacy- that;s so nice of you to say!"
yesterday

A modern metalsmith/metal artist can be found working in traditional metals as well as in nontraditional materials. The designs can range from the classic to the extravagant, and the techniques can either be centuries old or decidedly current.

The wide range of expression preferences, design options, materials, and processes has lead within our field to unfavorable misconceptions, misunderstandings and in some cases even outright disdain between artists. Can the metal and jewelry field overcome its division and send out a much-needed signal?

We appreciate and respect our historical past and acknowledge that current materials have a rightful place in jewelry/object making!

DETAILS on exhibition premise, call for artists, submission guidelines.....
