Great day

I had a fantastic day at the Tampa bay Aquarium. Saw many amazing creatures. My favorite was the pigmy seahorses. They mate

for life but sadly they only live one year. Some of them in the tank were

as big as my pinky nail!…

Pricing - how, when, why

recent musings.....i have been engaged most recently in repricing all of my work. i have given careful thought to this over the past couple of months & have come to realize that, in some cases, i was actually sellling my work at wholesale prices (or very close to it). so.....after some research (thanks, thomas mann), i have repriced every single item in my inventory. result - the retail price of most items has increased, from just a few dollars to as much as 30%, which is huge. those pieces… Continue

New "Jess" Stamp!

Yes it is finally here! My new "Jess" stamp has arrived! I'm so excited to finally have it. I was married 2 years ago in

June and I used my madden name as my stamp. My last name went from 5

letters to 9 letters. It’s just to long for jewelry. So I decided

to use my first name. I really love my new stamp it's so cute.…

The Back Story

One of the cool things about handmade items is that there is almost always a story behind the piece. Take this pendant, for example. It’s made of Biggs Jasper, which comes from Oregon. We have been prospectors and rockhounds for many decades, and collected the rough used in this pendant in the late 1970’s. You generally have to get pretty far off the trail to find anything good when you’re…

Silver Cats Save Cats

The OSPCA (Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) had plans to euthanize 350 animals, but only 99 have been put down due to 'combined voices of animal welfare advocates' (from the Toronto Humane Society Article), and many people are raising money, and there is even a…

OCAC Annual Jewelry Sale!!!

Every year, the Oregon College of Art and Craft's Metals Department holds a jewelry sale to raise funds for their Visiting Artist Fund.

This money goes towards bringing in a visiting artist to teach a weekend

workshop to students at the school. It is also great exposure for

students and alumni, as well as a fantastic place to find great gifts

for yourself or others at very very good…

I haven't made a single thing in three weeks and it is weighing on me.

What began as a well deserved break after two extra productive months has shifted into an unwelcome lull. I have illustrations to work on for two different projects, and even just sketching feels daunting. I cleaned and rearranged my studio and re-organized my supplies but i haven't been able to just spend a day at my bench and i think that is what i really…

What Have I Been Up To?

Since returning from Istanbul, it has been non-stop in the workshop, preparing work for orders and making some new pieces too. I've sidelined a number of works-in-progress in order to get on with more pressing issues, so there are no updates on my Chanel-inspired piece or my tribute to Alexander McQueen, though I have progressed apace with my first foray into electronics in jewellery, "14th Century Nightlife" which I hope to finish finally this coming week after it sitting on my bench for…See More
